Prompt - bone, wings, moon, stars, heron, drown, scream, cerulean
This poem is the result of a conversation with
and is dedicated to her. We were talking about what images we tend to overuse. I have just about worn out bones, wings, moon and stars (a few others are running a close second). I told her a relative of mine asked why I use words like scarlet, vermillion, azure and cerulean instead of red and blue, so that was added. Also, I have trouble with the word scream - it never fits in with what I am saying, so that word had to be used as well. Then
said she overused drowning...so of course I added that to my prompt list. She also said that where she lives, the Pacific Northwest, everyone writes about herons - they are a poetry fixture. So that was added to the list as well. And this was the result.
