Come, my lord, and we will make
that legendary beast -
your dark against my light
among these shadows
on the wall.
Let me soothe that livid pucker
from your doubting skin
and rend the jealous knit
of your jerkin
like a slow weave against my breasts.

Let me sweeten the wine -
honey singing in the gourd,
drowning his false words
in a stupor,
just a viper lost at duskling
that my lips can ease
into an afterthought.

You see,
this handkerchief is pure,
chaste as the light
that beats upon our names,
threatening this house;
and the envy of lesser men
weighs upon me here
like war drugged children
left dreaming in your fingers.
Another in the series...

I started this ages ago. Managed to get out the first line or twon...and then went blank. I am glad I went back to it. Thanks.

It would have been a loss if it had remained unfinished, Brendan.

As always your verse is mouth watering.

Oh, my! This is just incredible!! The opening lines nail it completely - the desire, the tension, and Desdemona's calm deference to her husband . Love the handkerchief of closing verse; reminding us of her innocence, lost in the fall of pride.

Lovely piece. I think it's told from Desdemona's point of view, one of my favourite tragic figures!

I like your reference to the 'beast with two backs' in the first stanza. The recurring theme of 'light', or pure/virtuous love as I interpret it, and its relation to the handkerchief is quite nice.
