I saw your face
in the post office
again.
It was one of those
eight by elevens
with black lettering,
It was an old picture
as if your chin
had not grown up yet
and your hair
framed your cheeks
as if to say
I, too, am a visitor.
They spelled your name wrong -
there are two A's in Isaac
and you looked
like you had been caught
wearing someone else's skin -
the scar at your temple
was a faded moon,
crescent and grey at the corner
and I could tell
you had not slept
in years.

This poem is so lovely. It reminds me of one of the most terrible times in our world's history. I don't know why, but it reminds me of that sadness.

This one certainly creates a wonderful story. Love it.

I especially love the crescent moon shaped faded scar.
It's as if it was over-powered with imagery, but the poem still kept up the same kind of energy throughout.

Nice job.

Thanks! I think I overuse moon imagery, but it just fit so well here!

I'm not sure what you had in mind here, because I thought you were going with those odd out-dated "WANTED" posters, but as you went on this made ME think of those pictures that have been digitally aged...where they take a missing 5 year old from 30 years ago and try to turn them into a grownup. They're always haunting and creepy and yes, like wearing someone else's skin.

Anyway, it's lovely and I read this the other day...and then found myself in the Post Office looking for the bulletin board for the wanted and missing posters...

i love your wording and the simplicity of this piece- it's short and the imagery is tangible and direct, yet there's so much said about the narrator and "isaac." poetry like this always leaves me wondering; it's these little snapshots in life that create meaning.

i only see one technical flaw:
"with black lettering,
It was an old picture"

the use of the comma there creates a stumble in the flow; you're shifting from one idea to another and the capitalization signals this, but a dash, a period, or even a semicolon might suit the pause better.

As always, you craft something so visual. So distant, yet right in my face (pardon the pun). Not to sound flattering, but you even have a way to bring colors our of black and white. Excellent.
