It paints bleak pictures
with brushes dipped in you -
the terse blues
of lonely winters
spent with dying family
in the shuffling white
of rooms
where feet clattered
and death beds reeked
of sour pity,
the aching red
of desolation
looming under blankets
and propping up pillows,
stricken golds
of battered sunlight
spilled across bedpans
and oxygen tanks

and the bleached
and silver grey
of the nurse's
incontinent lies.
Prompt - sick

I love that the imagery here is sort of a contradiction to itself, so poetically crafted, and yet so hauntingly real that it almost comes off crude. Well done.

Taken to heart, considering that is my future environment.
So strange to watch you put out -that- kind of beauty here, painted in gold and silver.
How horrific and divine is that?

Ah, I am hoping it is because of career? I think when we are in hospitals, either as patients or visitors, we try and create a different world or view of it.

As career, of course. *smiles and bows her head slightly* That world is something that cannot be avoided, but hopefully viewed as a good experience. I must know that in detail for the future to truly be able to help others.

I love this. Hospitals have always frightened me. The colors are gorgeous, and the way they capture the feeling of chilliness and emptiness in a hospital is wonderful.

This is a wonderful piece. I really, really love the last stanza- I'm not sure why you're not happy with it. I also love how you've blended tactile images with colours- it gives an additional emotion to the one already following the tone of the poem. Nice work. :+favlove:

This is a nice piece. It reminds me of What Dreams May Come where Robin Williams Character has somehow managed to slip into his wife's painting. I really love how you choose your words to evoke moods beyond their casual shell. By using colors you not only capture the mood but also seem to capture the mindset of the particular moment. Often when loved ones are not doing well we let our minds drift from the imagery and yet the feelings and thoughts still remain. And of course there are always the drugs that are given to patients that throw off the mind and give an altered perception(Jimi Hendrix often talked about his music as color.) It would be interesting to see a similar work from the patients perspective. The last stanza does seem to have some malice towards the nurse....perhaps its to convey the lack of answers or concern of an individual amidst the hectic hospital setting?
(On a side note: House is based off of Sherlock Holmes and of course Wilson fills the role of Watson.....he seems to fill the need for us to figure out puzzles and as with Sherlock homes House always seems to have the piece of evidence that we overlook....)

I have spent too much time in hospitals, watching people die. You learn to detach and view it in a different way. The mind does odd things to cope, you know? And I tend to look at things through different senses - visual has texture, sound has visual...it's been that way since i was a kid.

Ah, another fan of House! Love that show! I did not know that, but it makes perfect sense!

So I was sitting in my car, early for an audition, nervous as hell today. Was scrolling through DA on my phone while I waited, and this poem came up. The screen was so cramped I couldn't see the author, just kept reading like I had the ten other posting before it. Mid-sentence - hang on. This isn't just any old poem. Someone who knows how to use words did this ... sure enough, it was you. Totally snapped me out of the nerves. =)

Brilliant use of language as always, man. "Shuffling white of rooms", "sour pity" , "nurse's incontinent lies" ... I'll say it again, ridiculous. =D Thanks for a decent audition. lol

A professional choral group. I trained in classical music in college. Don't really care if I get paid as long as I am able to do some singing. I think it went well. If nothing else, everyone in the room had a good time...lol
