A mother, opening the kitchen door,
scents the distant air with cardamom -
an Araby of spices for the morn

The ancient art of cookery
Befits this humble sorceress -
this mother, opening the kitchen door

To wake her kingdom with a tapestry
the fragrant blend of ardent spices
scents the distant air with cardamom.

And children, waking from their winter sleep
will slip out of their dreamscapes to devour
an Araby of spices for the morn.

The cascade was created by Udit Bhatia and follows a simple format.
It has no rhyme structure however it instead uses refrains to give it a
waterfall, cascading effect. Each line of the first stanza becomes the last
line of the successive stanzas. The more lines you have per stanza, the
more stanzas you need to complete the poem. The scheme for a
terzain cascade (three line stanzas) is: ABC, deA, fgB, hiC

This was an excellent poem. You beautifully executed a simple pattern and the results were magnificent.I I were to give one piece of friendly criticism, I would say that you used the same words over and over.
I would suggest using more variety.

Thanks. The poem is a traditional form - a cascade. It requires that you repeat lines again and again.

This is my neighbor; she makes the most wonderful things! HER kids are going to bemoan the lack of home cooking when they go off to college.

Mine? Are going to sigh with resignation at every long break they're required to go home for, and make sure their cars are filled with Nutterbutters and microwavable mac n' cheese, things to be eaten BEFORE being called to dinner...

*Grins* Not Betty Crocker? Or Martha Stewart? Somehow I think your kids have other reasons to adore you.

Mmm cardamom, my favorite spice. It's like a cousin to cinnamon, but somehow more of a deep flavor. Goes great with Indian cooking!

This is so beautiful and evocative. Makes me sad though because I want to buy some cardamom to make fruitcake but it's so expensive at the supermarket

I don't have that archetypal reminiscence
since my mom couldn't bake her way out of a paper bag
and my dad was more prosaic in his choice of seasonings.
But this poem is like standing at a kitchen door.
