The pale keening of cicadas
echoes in the sun's lingering hue
and on the horizon
smoke unfurls its wooded glory
through the glen.
Pumpkins crown the curling vines
in triumph,
waiting to be claimed
in greedy grasps
and turned like changeling goblins
after dark;
and this bright crush
of maize and barley
carves the crisp evening
and singes our eyes
in the fine glory of a psalm.
It's that time of year...

You're welcome! I had to comment. Your poems are always so moving. You truly know how to paint a picture with words in a unique but vivid way. Your words are full of emotion too. I thank you for sharing that talent here. It's always a pleasure.

I have a weakness for Halloween themed pieces and couldn't help myself to collect this since there is such inherent dedication to the subtlety. Keening, perfect. Also, your pumpkin description, perfect. Perfect.

The first line, your description of how cicadas sound (it's terrific- "The pale keening..") catches readers and you don't let them go until (maybe) the last line. Thank you. Have a happy Halloween. :+fav:

I still think your work is great, but do you believe in God or supernatural/dark magic?

I dont know, just curious because i noticed your art work has alot or refference with magic, but when i read the quote at the bottom of your comments that said "everyday people are straying from church but returning to God", i wasn't sure if you believed in him or not.

*Smiles* I also have written quite a few things about serial killers and other 'real monsters"...but that does not make me one. Magic, the occult, the world of the fae, legends, myths and tall tales all fascinate me...but that does not mean I put faith in them. There symbols and mystery make for great imagery, plain and simple.

I do not follow any set organized religion or creed. I do not like church. I consider myself spiritual, and my belief system (the result of two decades of reading and studying)is sort of a combination of Christianity, Judaism and Buddhism. I believe God...Christ...Allah...Buddha...call him what you will, is too big to be contained by one religion.

I am also a big believer in synchronicity.

Wow, well that really gave me a new perspective. I used to love magic and all that kind of stuff but when i became a christian the bible tells me that dark magic and all that is bad and against God's will. I don't know, maybe i haven't had enough time to decide my beliefs based on my knoledge of religion. I decided try to stay away from tales of magic and that kind of of stuff though also because i have a vivid imagination and what my mind comes up with scares me sometimes. For example, i often get glimpses of hell in my dreams, and i really frightens me. I guess for me i just feel a little safer learning about God.

I never would have thought that you could put both together? *confusion*

Reading about any subject does not mean you have to believe in it, does it? And if your faith is strong, how could reading something dark impact you in a negative way? The only way to learn, grow, and not live in terror is to read and talk to others...expose yourself to other viewpoints. As to hell...why would a wise and loving creator condemn you to hell for anything? What have you done that is so bad that it is even an issue of concern? I seriously doubt the creator would condemn anyone for reading a book contrary to his views...that would make him rather childish, petty and vindictive...and isn't god supposed to be above that sort of thing? Your faith should never be a source of fear...that defeats the whole purpose of having it.
